Křižanovice I Reservoir, reservoir in Křižanovice, Czech Republic
Křižanovice I Reservoir is a concrete dam built across the Chrudimka River that creates a water surface covering about 32 hectares. The dam stands roughly 32 meters high and stretches about 130 meters across the valley, holding over 2 million cubic meters of water that flows through a pipeline to power a nearby hydroelectric station.
The reservoir was built between 1948 and 1954 after World War II to manage water and supply electricity to the region. Modern construction techniques were applied to improve efficiency and reduce material use during its development.
The reservoir serves as a place where visitors can observe how water management shapes the local landscape and daily life. The calm surface and surrounding hills create a setting where people gather to walk, rest, and appreciate the relationship between engineering and nature.
Visitors can walk along the dam on marked paths and enjoy views of the water and surrounding landscape. The area is accessible on foot and offers quiet spots for resting and taking in the scenery.
A road runs along the top of the dam connecting the towns of Křižanovice and Nasavrky, offering travelers a unique vantage point. This crossing provides an immediate view of the water surface and the valley below while serving as a practical connection for local traffic.
