Krkanka

Krkanka is a nature reserve featuring a deep wooded valley that spans approximately 100 hectares and connects diverse ecosystems including forests, meadows, and water bodies. The area is accessed by several color-marked hiking trails, including a blue route from Nasavrky to Libáň and a yellow route from Hradiště to Šiškovice.

The reserve was officially protected in 1990 and preserves remains of a Celtic settlement dating to the 2nd century BC. This archaeological evidence shows that the region was inhabited well before modern times.

The marked paths through this area link nearby villages and pass sites where ancient Celtic groups once built their settlements. This creates an opportunity for walkers to experience both the natural surroundings and traces of a distant past in a single visit.

Visitors should wear appropriate footwear and bring gear for changing weather, as the valley contains dense forest sections and damp areas. The marked trails can be accessed from several points in surrounding villages, giving flexibility in choosing your route.

The Chrudimka River carved a rocky canyon through this area over thousands of years, creating striking geological formations. These water-carved features give the valley its distinctive shape and show the power of flowing water to reshape landscapes.
