Ptačí Kámen

Im Löchel is a mountain summit in the Sudetes region rising to 1416 meters, defined by exposed granite outcrops and rocky terrain. Mountain spruce forests clothe the surrounding slopes, creating a forested landscape typical of this Alpine border zone.

This peak functioned as a natural boundary marker between German and Czech lands long before formal border establishment. Its geographic position became officially recognized as a frontier marker during the early 20th century when regional borders were drawn and redrawn.

The peak carries a German name rooted in local mountain naming traditions of the border region. In Czech, it is called Ptačí Kámen, reflecting how neighboring communities developed separate linguistic identities for the same place.

The summit is accessible via marked hiking trails from both the German and Czech sides of Karkonosze National Park. Good weather is essential for visiting as the exposed summit can be cold and windy even on seemingly clear days.

From the summit, visitors can see numerous neighboring peaks in close proximity, including notable formations such as Śląskie Kamienne and Śmielec. This expansive view reveals the dense network of mountains that characterizes this transnational mountain chain.
