Śmielec, Mountain summit in Giant Mountains, Poland.
Große Sturmhaube is a mountain summit in the Giant Mountains that rises to 1,424 meters. The peak features rocky terrain on its northeastern side that descends toward neighboring peaks in the range.
The mountain borders two national parks: Poland's Karkonoski National Park and Czech Republic's Krkonošský National Park, both created to protect the mountain region. This location reflects the shared history of the Giant Mountains along the border between the two nations.
A memorial stands 400 meters east of the mountain, marking where Czech journalist Richard Kalman lost his life in a snowstorm in 1929.
Visitors should prepare for changing mountain weather and bring proper equipment for the summit. Access is best from either the Polish or Czech sides of the range, with established hiking trails available from both directions.
The northeastern side contains Agnetendorfer Schneegrube, a glacier basin where the Schneegrubenwasser stream originates. This geological feature makes the area noteworthy for visitors interested in how mountain water systems naturally form and flow.
