Důl Hlubina, Former coal mine and entertainment center in Moravská Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Důl Hlubina is a converted coal mine in Moravská Ostrava, now operating as an entertainment center that displays historical mining equipment. The site preserves a Škoda winding machine from the 1940s and a boiler room dating to the pre-World War I era.
The mine was established in 1852 by Salomon Mayer Rothschild to supply coal to the nearby Vítkovice ironworks. The operation continued until 1991, when the facility ceased production.
The site now functions as a venue for art exhibitions and performances, especially during the Colours of Ostrava festival. These repurposed industrial spaces regularly host contemporary cultural events that draw artists and visitors interested in modern creativity.
The site offers free drinking water stations and bike rentals, with multiple restaurants serving Czech and Italian cuisine throughout the venue. The various areas are easily walkable, providing plenty of space for different activities and events.
The mine was notable for its deep shafts, which continuously reached deeper coal seams as operations progressed over time. The underground structures today reveal the technical challenges that miners faced during extraction.
