Becherova vila, Cultural monument and interactive gallery in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.
Becherova vila is a three-story residence with Art Deco interior paintings that now functions as a gallery and cultural center. An octagonal corner tower marks the exterior, while the interior contains multiple exhibition spaces for contemporary artworks and creative activities.
Built between 1913 and 1914 for businessman Gustav Becher, the residence served as SS headquarters during World War II. The building became state property after the war and was later transformed into a cultural center.
The name honors Gustav Becher, the businessman who commissioned this residence. Today visitors experience contemporary art exhibitions and creative workshops that reflect the work of both emerging and established artists from the region and beyond.
The entrance is located on Krále Jiřího street in the city center. The exhibition spaces are spread across multiple floors, so visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be ready to climb stairs.
During the 2011 renovation, original Art Deco murals were discovered hidden beneath later layers and were preserved. These paintings now remain visible, restoring an important part of the villa's original decor.
