The Beach Club

The Beach Club is a private oceanfront establishment in Rye featuring multiple buildings arranged around a saltwater pool. The grounds near the Ocean Boulevard and Sea Road intersection include separate bathhouses and other facilities serving members.

The main building dates from 1882 and remains the sole surviving private beachfront club from that era on New Hampshire's coast. It endured more than a century while maintaining its original function as a members' establishment.

The name reflects its purpose as a private members' retreat for the wealthy, drawing prominent families from the wider region. Such exclusive beachfront establishments shaped social life along the New England coast throughout the 20th century.

The main entrance sits at 2450 Ocean Boulevard, accessed directly from the street. As a private members-only facility, access is restricted and not available to the general public.

The saltwater pool received an underwater lighting system in 2007, one of the few remaining examples of this type. This modernization shows how the facility adapted its historic spaces to contemporary comfort standards.
