Milwaukee-Downer Seminary, Former girls school campus in Milwaukee, United States.
Milwaukee-Downer Seminary was a private school campus in Milwaukee that taught girls from kindergarten through grade twelve. The grounds provided various academic programs designed to give young women a thorough education.
The seminary emerged from Milwaukee-Downer College and separated as its own institution in 1910. It became an independent organization in 1933 and continued operating until it left its Milwaukee location in 1961.
The school represented a turning point for girls' education in Wisconsin, providing young women with serious academic instruction. It served as an important educational center for families in the area seeking quality schooling for their daughters.
The grounds are best explored on foot, with various school buildings defining the campus layout. Visiting during business hours provides the best access to the buildings and clear views of how the facilities were arranged.
The school merged with two other institutions in 1963 to form University School of Milwaukee, continuing its educational tradition. This combination created one of the region's major private school organizations.
