Banner Elk Hotel, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
The Banner Elk Hotel was a lodging establishment in Banner Elk, North Carolina, that was later converted into townhouses. The current brick buildings with pale yellow trim stand on the same site and mark the historic location of the former inn.
Robert and Eva Banner Lowe purchased the house in the late 1800s and gradually transformed it into a hotel by adding two wings. It operated until 1960 and served as a community gathering place with evening dances, while also being one of the first locations in town to have telephone and radio service.
Visitors can see the hotel site today while walking through Banner Elk's historic downtown, where brick townhouses with pale trim now stand. A self-guided mobile app tour helps explore this location and other historic spots at your own pace.
The hotel was one of the first places in town with telephone and radio service and attracted guests from as far away as California and Florida. The guest register even included names of members from the prominent Vanderbilt family.
