Cove Creek High School is a two-story stone building in Sugar Grove constructed between 1940 and 1941. The structure displays Collegiate Gothic features including seven wide bays and small projecting stair towers topped with a crenellated parapet that gives it a castle-like character.
The building was constructed as part of a government program to develop schools in the 1940s and was designed by architect Clarence R. Coffey, who trained under Frank Lloyd Wright. It was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
The school takes its name from nearby Cove Creek and reflects the geographic ties of the rural community. Today visitors can see how the simple windows and doorways were designed to welcome generations of local children, making it a gathering place that shaped community life.
