Eden Hall, Greek Revival plantation house in McCormick County, US.
Eden Hall is a two-and-a-half-story residence featuring Greek Revival architecture in McCormick County. The white frame structure stands on a high brick foundation with four interior chimneys and a medium gable roof.
The house was built in 1854 for Dr. John Wardlaw Hearst and designed by Atlanta architect Henry Jones. It earned National Register listing in 1980.
The property shows how wealthy Southern plantation owners blended Greek Revival design with Egyptian influences when building their homes.
The property sits about 6 miles northeast of McCormick along U.S. Route 221 and South Carolina Highway 24. It remains a private residence and is not open to the public.
The formal garden south of the main house was designed by an English landscape architect using local materials, including hand-sawed virgin pine from the plantation. This connection between house and garden shows an unusual understanding of the local setting.
