Abbeville Historic District is a neighborhood in South Carolina containing homes and business buildings from different time periods. The structures stand between railroad tracks and Highway 72, forming a cohesive town center.

The district took shape after major fires in the early 1870s drove rebuilding with new structures. It gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, with boundary changes added later to include more streets.

Abbeville's courthouse square holds the 1903 Abbeville County Courthouse and the Abbeville Opera House, both listed individually on the National Register. The Opera House name survives in local use, and the square remains the setting for the town's public gatherings and county business.

Visitors can walk through the neighborhood to see different building styles in homes and shops. The ground is level and easy to navigate, with multiple streets to explore and local businesses to discover.

The district's 1972 listing was approved together with a reduction of its area east of Magazine Street, and a 1984 boundary increase added N. Main, Greenville and Marshall Court blocks. It now holds 528 sites: 37 significant, 282 supporting and 209 non-contributing properties.
