Jakey Hollow Natural Area, Protected area in Columbia County, United States.
Jakey Hollow Natural Area is a protected forest spanning across Columbia County with a mix of eastern hemlock, white pine, and hardwood trees creating layered canopy structure. The woodland supports diverse tree ages and sizes throughout its woodland composition.
The land was acquired by Ward Crawford and his brother during the 1950s, then transferred to Pennsylvania's Department of Conservation in 1990. This transfer ensured the woodland remained protected as a natural preserve.
The forest contains sections recognized by the Old-Growth Forest Network, representing Pennsylvania's natural forest heritage through its preserved tree specimens.
The Ward Crawford Trail winds about a mile through the forest crossing a stream before reaching an open field area. Visitors should wear proper footwear as the path includes natural obstacles and can be muddy during wet weather.
The forest features a blend of younger eastern hemlock and older white pines, with some hardwood trees surpassing 200 years in age. This age diversity demonstrates different stages of forest development within a single woodland.
