The Isaac Jenkins Mikell House is a Roman Revival residence in the South of Broad neighborhood of Charleston. Its southern front displays a pedimented portico resting on six cypress columns that carry ram's head ornaments.
Cotton planter Isaac Jenkins Mikell commissioned this house between 1853 and 1854. The estate also included a separate kitchen building, a coach house, and quarters for enslaved workers.
The Charleston Free Library operated in this building from 1935 until the early 1960s, serving the local community as a center of knowledge.
The property received National Register of Historic Places designation in March 2014. Visitors can find the building in the southern part of Charleston near the historic waterfront.
The house served as the Charleston Free Library from 1935 until the early 1960s. Patricia Altschul bought the property in 2008 and it appears regularly on the television series Southern Charm.
