Lightning Run

Lightning Run is a steel roller coaster at Kentucky Kingdom that spans the park and features climbs and drops reaching 100 feet (30 m) high. The ride reaches speeds around 55 miles per hour (89 km/h) and uses two trains with a total of ten cars arranged with riders sitting in pairs.

The ride opened in 2014 after the park emerged from a closure and complex negotiations between local investors and the state fair board. The opening marked an important step in reviving the facility as a modern entertainment venue.

The ride was developed as part of the park's strategy to establish itself as a major entertainment destination. It draws visitors from across the region and contributes to how people view the facility as a contemporary leisure venue.

The ride operates in most weather conditions, though strong storms may cause temporary closures. Visitors should wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to store loose items in designated areas.

This is the only operating model of its kind still in use and features nine distinct moments of weightlessness during the ride. This technical feature makes the experience interesting for riders at every stage of the coaster.
