Little Pine Mountain is a summit in Santa Barbara County that reaches approximately 4,460 feet in elevation. The slopes support a mixed forest of Coulter pines along with scattered chaparral vegetation typical of the area.
The mountain formed over millions of years through geological processes involving Franciscan rock assemblages, the Espada Formation, and Matilija Sandstone layers. These rock types remain visible in the mountain's structure today.
Local hiking communities gather at Happy Hollow Spring camping site near the summit for outdoor activities throughout winter months.
The Santa Cruz National Recreation Trail provides the main access route to reach the summit and requires proper hiking gear and ample water supplies. Be prepared for exposed sections and changing weather conditions at higher elevations.
Dark-red cinnabar deposits surface in certain areas, creating a striking visual feature amid the surrounding landscape. The serpentine soils on the lower slopes support specialized plant communities found nowhere else in the region.
