Scott's Run Nature Preserve

Scott's Run Nature Preserve spans 336 acres of woodland terrain along the Potomac River, featuring eastern hemlock trees and winding hiking trails.

The land was purchased in the 1920s by Edward B. Burling for $200 per acre before local residents raised $3.6 million in 1970 to preserve it.

The preservation of this natural space resulted from community action when residents organized to prevent the construction of 309 luxury homes.

The preserve maintains strict regulations prohibiting swimming, picnicking, and off-leash pets while offering designated parking spaces for 50 vehicles.

Eastern hemlock trees grow naturally within the preserve, marking a rare presence of this species in the Virginia region.
