Guild Theatre, Movie theater in downtown Portland, United States.
The Guild Theatre was a movie theater in downtown Portland with a single screen and around 400 seats located in the city's cultural district. After closing in 2006, the building was converted to serve a different purpose.
The building opened in 1927 as Taylor Street Theatre and originally served downtown as a cinema for classic films. Its role as a gathering place changed as movie theaters fell out of favor.
From 1998 to 2006, the theater served as the main venue for the Portland International Film Festival, presenting independent and international cinema.
The location sits in the cultural quarter of downtown and is easy to reach on foot. Since it no longer operates as a theater, visitors should check what currently occupies the space.
In the 1950s, the entrance was rebuilt and moved from Taylor Street to 9th Street, fundamentally changing how people accessed the building. This shift shaped the theater's appearance for decades afterward.
