Alcohol and Drug Abuse Lake

Village Lake is a reservoir in Richland County, South Carolina, located near Columbia. The body of water covers approximately 93 acres along a tributary of the Crane Creek River and serves as a water resource for surrounding communities.

The reservoir was built in 1973 and took its original name from the nearby Morris Village Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Center. In 2022, local authorities renamed the body of water Village Lake to reflect changing community sentiment.

The renaming to Village Lake in 2022 demonstrates how communities adapt landmark names to address social sensitivities and local preferences.

Visitors can use the reservoir for fishing and boating, but should follow established water safety guidelines. Access is available through surrounding paths that are suitable for walking and nature observation.
