The building was transported across Long Island's Great South Bay in 1944 to serve the newly formed Cherry Grove Property Owners Association.
The venue established itself as the first continuous gay summer theater in the United States, presenting performances that addressed LGBTQ community matters.
Located at 180 Bayview Walk, the theater maintains regular programming with theatrical productions, drag shows, and cabaret performances throughout the summer season.
The National Register of Historic Places listed this structure in 2013 for its role in developing America's first LGBTQ-influenced municipality.
