Averasboro Battlefield Historic District
Averasboro Battlefield Historic District, Civil War battlefield museum in Harnett County, United States.
Averasboro Battlefield Historic District is a protected historic site with a museum, four buildings, three separate locations, and three structures spread across farmland near Erwin. The area covers 4700 acres and preserves the ground where a major Civil War confrontation took place in March 1865.
The ground saw a major confrontation between Union and Confederate forces on March 15-16, 1865, near the end of the Civil War. The site gained official recognition when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, confirming its historical importance.
The district preserves Oak Grove and Lebanon plantations where visitors can see cemeteries and markers that reflect local heritage from the Civil War era. Walking through these grounds shows how the land was organized and used by those who lived here.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM and sits close to Interstate 95 for easy access. Plan enough time to walk the grounds and visit the different buildings and sites, especially on clear days when the outdoor areas are most pleasant.
The American Battlefield Trust has preserved 520 acres of the original battlefield with careful attention to keeping the ground much as it was during the 1865 fighting. This makes it one of the few places where visitors can stand on the actual terrain where the combat took place.
