Women's University Club of Seattle
Women's University Club of Seattle, Historic clubhouse in downtown Seattle, United States.
The Women's University Club is a six-story building in Georgian style located on Sixth Avenue with symmetrical front design and refined architectural details throughout. Inside, it contains dining areas where members gather for meals, along with meeting rooms and social spaces spread across multiple floors.
The club was founded in 1914 and relocated to its current downtown location in 1920 when its original site was needed for another building project. This move to a larger Georgian-style building strengthened its position as a central gathering place for educated women in the city.
The club serves as a gathering place for university-educated women who meet for conversation, professional connection, and intellectual exchange throughout the year. Regular events and group discussions create a sense of community built around shared educational background and local interests.
The building provides members with dining options throughout the day and multiple rooms available for meetings and events. Access is limited to members and their guests, so prior arrangements are necessary for any visit.
Eleanor Roosevelt visited the club in 1939 to deliver an address during an anniversary celebration, which brought national attention to the organization. This appearance by such a prominent figure highlighted the club's importance in advancing women's roles and education.
