S. H. Kress Building, Art Deco retail building in downtown Albuquerque, United States.
The S. H. Kress Building features a two-story flat-roofed structure with cast iron storefronts, large plate glass windows, and decorative brown brick patterns.
Constructed in 1925 by the S. H. Kress & Co. department store chain, the building operated as a retail store until 1981 when the parent company ceased operations.
The building represents the early 20th-century retail architecture and demonstrates the commercial development of downtown Albuquerque through its preserved architectural elements.
The structure maintains its original exterior features, including wooden-framed sash windows and horizontal bands of white stone molding across the second floor facade.
Local artist Victoria Van Dame currently renovates the building to establish a multi-disciplinary gallery space for visual arts, music, performance, and culinary activities.
