First National Bank Building, Bank building in downtown Albuquerque, United States
The First National Bank Building is a nine-story structure in downtown Albuquerque featuring arched windows and a gray marble base that give it a distinctive look. The exterior shows vertical setbacks in the design, while the interior has been updated through renovations to accommodate residential apartments and commercial spaces today.
The building was designed and constructed between 1920 and 1923 by the architectural firm Trost & Trost and held the title of Albuquerque's tallest structure until 1954. At 141 feet high, it became an important landmark during the city's early period of modern development.
The main lobby retains its original decorative elements including a coffered ceiling and octagonal columns, which create a sense of craftsmanship from the building's early years. These architectural details help define how the space feels and reveal the attention to detail that went into its construction.
The building sits in an easy-to-reach location in downtown Albuquerque along Central Avenue Northwest. You can view the exterior from the street and walk into the public lobby area to see the historical interior details.
The building retains its original bank vault and many period features despite being converted from a banking hall to modern office and residential space in 2017. These preserved elements allow visitors to understand how the building originally functioned.
