Wicked Cyclone, Hybrid roller coaster at Six Flags New England, Agawam, Massachusetts.
Wicked Cyclone is a hybrid roller coaster with steel track mounted on wooden supports that reaches 109 feet tall. The ride travels at about 55 miles per hour, and two trains with six cars each move riders through the course at the same time.
The original wooden coaster called Cyclone opened in 1983 and was a popular park attraction. It was completely rebuilt in 2014 and reopened in May 2015 with new steel construction.
The name references the historic Coney Island Cyclone, and visitors can see how wooden support structures blend with steel track construction. This combination shapes how the ride looks and reflects how engineering traditions meet modern design.
Keep in mind that the coaster operates at full capacity and wait times can be long during peak hours. Arriving early in the day or visiting during late afternoon and evening hours helps you avoid bigger crowds.
The coaster has three inversions, including a 200-degree zero-gravity roll and two zero-gravity turns. This made it the first hybrid coaster on the East Coast of the United States.
