Airbus Mobile, Airplane assembly facility in Mobile, Alabama
Airbus Mobile is an aircraft assembly factory in Mobile, Alabama, in the United States. The facility has a massive hangar longer than two football fields and over 90 feet tall, where workers join components of A220 and A320 aircraft through a series of sequential work stations.
Airbus opened a service center for military aircraft in Mobile in 2009 and began assembling commercial aircraft in 2015. A new assembly line for the A220 was added in 2019, marking the site's growth as a global production hub.
Book your tour in advance since tours typically run once monthly on Saturdays and fill up quickly. The Flight Works Alabama visitor center offers interactive exhibits and flight simulators before a bus takes you to the assembly hangar, where you observe the work process from an elevated viewing platform.
Unlike many other factory tours, the aircraft do not move along conveyor belts but remain stationary while different components are added at separate stations. This stationary assembly method allows visitors to watch the entire aircraft come together in one location and better understand the efficiency of this production system.
