Fort Armistead, Coastal defense fort in Hawkins Point, Baltimore, US
Fort Armistead features four gun batteries, underground tunnels, and a strategic position overlooking the Baltimore shipping channel near the Key Bridge.
Built between 1897 and 1901 as part of the Endicott Program, Fort Armistead protected Baltimore with artillery until its decommissioning after World War I.
The fort bears the name of Major George Armistead, who commanded Fort McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore in 1814.
Located at 4000 Hawkins Point Road, the fort grounds include parking facilities and several walking trails leading to the former military structures.
The fort contained a mine casemate and command station for managing naval minefields in Baltimore harbor during its active military service.
