Firehouse, Hook & Ladder Company 8, Fire station in Tribeca, Manhattan, US.
Firehouse, Hook & Ladder Company 8 is a Beaux-Arts style fire station on 14 North Moore Street in Tribeca that houses the New York City Fire Department. The light stone facade shows a single bay entrance with a red door, above which sits a recognizable sign.
The station was built in 1903 and originally had two vehicle doors along its wider facade. In 1913 the building had to be reduced to half its size because of the widening of Varick Street, which made one of the doors disappear.
The building became recognizable worldwide through its role as a filming location for the headquarters in the Ghostbusters movies. Visitors come here to photograph the facade that appeared in the film series.
The station is an active site for firefighting operations, so visitors should respect traffic and the work of the firefighters. When the main door is open you can sometimes speak with the firefighters or purchase commemorative patches.
A full-size Ghostbusters sign hangs above the entrance, donated in 2021 by a fan organization from Buffalo. This sign replaces earlier markings and reminds passersby of the station's connection to the movie.
