SNCI Tower, Skyscraper in Tribeca, Manhattan, United States
The SNCI Tower is a 57-story residential building located at the intersection of West Street and Canal Street in Tribeca. Its modern design combines extensive glazing with a concrete structural core.
The building was conceived in 2011 by the architectural team at solus4 working with LeMessurier Consultants on structural systems. Its completion signaled an important moment in how residential towers were being designed in Manhattan during that decade.
The tower houses individual apartments on each floor, representing how contemporary New Yorkers embrace living vertically in the city. This design choice reflects a shift toward single-unit residential spaces in dense urban neighborhoods.
The building has two high-speed elevators serving the residential floors and parking facilities at street level designed for electric vehicles. Both amenities support convenient daily access and vehicle use for occupants.
The double-walled facade system uses the chimney effect between the two outer layers to power turbines for electricity generation. This feature demonstrates an experimental approach to harvesting renewable energy directly from the building's own structure.
