Bulls Gap Historic District

The Bulls Gap Historic District encompasses forty-eight buildings and eight structures along South Main Street, including residences, churches, and commercial buildings.

In 1792, John Bull acquired a fifty-five acre land grant on Bays Mountain, establishing a strategic passage that became essential during the Civil War.

The district features architectural examples from the late nineteenth century, including Bungalow, Craftsman, and Queen Anne styles throughout its structures.

The National Register designation provides property owners access to preservation resources and guidance through the National Park Service programs.

Two major rail lines intersect in the district, forming a triangular area that became the center of commercial development in Bulls Gap.
