Bulls Gap Historic District

Bulls Gap Historic District is a protected area with nearly fifty buildings and structures, mainly along South Main Street. The collection includes residences, churches, and commercial buildings reflecting various styles from the 1800s.

The area began in 1792 when John Bull received a land grant near Bays Mountain and created an important passage. This location later gained major significance for the region during the American Civil War.

The streets show building styles from the town's founding era, with homes and shops that reveal how people once lived and worked. You can still see this architecture today and understand how the community took shape.

The district lies along South Main Street and is easy to visit since most buildings are visible from the road. It works best to walk around and take time to observe the different architectural styles.

Two major railroad lines cross within the district, forming a triangular area that became the town's commercial center. These railroad connections were why Bulls Gap grew and flourished in this particular location.
