Maden Hall Farm

Maden Hall Farm is a historic property with a main residence and six auxiliary buildings spread across 17 acres of agricultural land north of Greeneville. The structures display Federal architecture and sit at the intersection of Kingsport Highway and Gass Memorial Road.

William Ross II built the farmhouse in 1825 on land granted as compensation for military service during the American Revolution. The property retains its original Federal architecture from this founding period.

The property reveals how people organized daily life and work on Tennessee farms of that era. The collection of separate buildings shows the division between household tasks, food production, and social arrangements that shaped rural living.

The property is easily reached since it sits at a well-marked road intersection on relatively flat terrain. Wear comfortable shoes to walk between the various buildings and explore the grounds.

A barn structure from around 1840 displays unusual construction techniques borrowed from Southwest Virginia. This feature shows how building traditions spread across state lines and brought different regional styles to Tennessee.
