Treasure Island Resort & Casino, Tribal resort and casino in Welch, United States
Treasure Island Resort is a tribal resort and casino along the Mississippi River in Welch featuring 788 hotel rooms, an indoor water park, a marina, and gaming floors with slots and table games. The property also includes a 24-lane bowling center, a 16,000-capacity amphitheater, and an event center that holds up to 2,800 guests indoors.
The property started as Island Bingo in 1984 and became a full casino after the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 legalized tribal gaming. That federal law allowed the Prairie Island Indian Community to expand the operation significantly and develop it into today's large resort complex.
The Prairie Island Indian Community operates this entertainment center and directs revenue toward healthcare, education, and housing programs that benefit tribal members.
The resort sits on the Mississippi River bank and operates year-round for different visitor interests. Since attractions are spread across multiple buildings and most areas are climate-controlled, guests can easily navigate between the gaming areas, water park, dining, and entertainment venues.
The resort is the largest employer in Goodhue County and sits as one of few casinos in southern Minnesota with direct Mississippi River access. This riverfront location near a major waterway was key to the site's original selection for development.
