Ramsey Mill and Old Mill Park
Ramsey Mill and Old Mill Park, Historic mill site on Vermillion River in Hastings, United States.
Ramsey Mill is a four-story stone structure built along the Vermillion River in Hastings, featuring thick limestone walls that have weathered over time. The site sits within Old Mill Park, where natural areas with oak trees and river vegetation complement the industrial ruins.
This mill began operations in the mid-1800s as part of the region's early industrial expansion, processing grain from surrounding agricultural areas. It became one of the working facilities that helped establish Hastings as a growing center of commerce.
The mill ruins show how important grain processing was to the local community and how this work shaped daily life in the region. Today, the site reflects how industrial activity once brought people together around a shared purpose.
The park features connected trails through the site where you can walk among the ruins and along the river for a full outdoor experience. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as trails wind through both open areas and shaded sections.
The landscape here includes rare oak savanna habitat with scattered trees and native prairie plants that once covered the surrounding region. The river section supports a fish population that reflects the ecological conditions that existed long before the mill was built.

Minnesota contains numerous locations away from the main tourist circuits. The state stretches from the shores of Lake Superior to the southern prairies, encompassing historic lighthouses, underground mines, waterfalls, and Japanese gardens. Visitors find both natural landscapes and cultural sites that tell the story of the region's history. Notable locations include prehistoric rock carvings at Jeffers Petroglyphs Site, where indigenous peoples left their marks thousands of years ago, and sacred trees of Ojibwe culture. The geological formation known as Devil's Kettle, a waterfall whose course puzzled scientists for years, attracts visitors interested in natural phenomena. Historic mines provide insight into Minnesota's industrial past, while lighthouses recall the maritime history along the largest of the Great Lakes.
