Cosmopolitan on the Park, Residential skyscraper in Pearl District, Portland, United States
Cosmopolitan on the Park is a 28-story residential tower in Portland's Pearl District, with a glass-fronted facade facing Fields Park. The building includes an upper-floor landscaped terrace, a fitness center, a clubroom, and a rooftop deck reserved for residents.
Construction started in 2014 and the building opened in 2016, during a period when the Pearl District was already well into its shift from warehouses and rail yards to housing and shops. It was one of several towers built in the neighborhood around the same time.
The building sits right next to Fields Park, one of the few large green spaces in the Pearl District. People walking through the neighborhood can see how this park and the surrounding residential towers together shape a walkable urban living area.
The building stands at the edge of Fields Park and is easy to reach on foot from most of the Pearl District. Since it is a residential building, the interior is not open to the public, but the glass facade is clearly visible from the park and the surrounding streets.
The glass facade was made by Benson Industries, the same Portland-based company that built the curtain wall of One World Trade Center in New York. The fact that this local firm worked on both projects ties the Pearl District tower to one of the tallest buildings in the country.
