Portland Buddhist Church
Portland Buddhist Church, Buddhist temple in Pearl District, Portland, United States.
The Early Commercial style building at 312 NW Tenth Avenue features classical architectural elements with symmetrical window placement and detailed stonework.
Established in 1903 by Reverend Shozui Wakabayashi, the temple became a center for over 500 Japanese American members by 1910.
During World War II, the building stored belongings of community members who were sent to internment camps, including Rinban Tansai Terakawa.
The temple maintained its original location for five decades until 1966, when the congregation relocated to a new facility in Southeast Portland.
The structure earned recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, preserving its connection to Portland's Japanese American heritage.
