Barberville Falls is a waterfall in Poestenkill where water drops steeply over a broad rock face within a deep gorge. The cascade creates several tiers as it descends, shaped by the underlying geology and the force of the Poesten Kill river.
The falls were managed by The Nature Conservancy from 1967 before transitioning to the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance in 2019. This change brought new funding and improvements to the site's infrastructure.
The falls serve as a centerpiece of a 140-acre nature preserve, where visitors observe native wildlife and plant species in a hemlock-northern hardwood forest.
Access is through marked trails that lead to different viewing areas, with routes offering varying levels of difficulty. Wear sturdy shoes as the paths can be steep and slippery, especially near the water.
Stone foundations of an abandoned mill sit near the base, remnants of earlier industrial attempts in the area. These old structures stand in sharp contrast to the natural beauty of the falls.
