Big Woods Wildlife Management Area

The Big Woods Wildlife Management Area spans 4,173 acres of forests, wetlands, and grasslands providing habitats for numerous animal species throughout Sussex County.

The land was originally owned by International Paper for timber production until 2006 when The Nature Conservancy purchased it for 4,400 acres.

The management area integrates conservation practices with recreational activities, allowing visitors to connect with nature through hunting, hiking, and wildlife observation.

Access to the management area requires visitors aged 17 and older to obtain a valid hunting, fishing, or specific WMA access permit.

The area contains two distinct sections: a 2,208-acre main tract adjacent to Big Woods State Forest and a 1,965-acre Parker's Branch tract.
