The St. Lucie County Aquarium maintains a collection of 8,000 gallons of marine exhibits representing Florida's coastal and estuarine environments.
The facility opened in 2001 after relocating its coral reef exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.
The aquarium functions as a research station through its partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, conducting studies on marine ecosystems and species.
Visitors can explore six distinct marine habitats Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The centerpiece exhibition features a complete Caribbean coral reef system with living specimens from the Florida coastal waters.
