Sunrise Theatre, Mediterranean Revival theater in Fort Pierce, US
Sunrise Theatre is a movie house in Mediterranean Revival style on South 2nd Street featuring a 1,200-seat auditorium. No spectator sits more than 85 feet (26 meters) from the stage, giving everyone a close view of performances.
The building was constructed in 1923 from architect John N. Sherwood's design and completed by developer C.E. Cahow. It became the largest performance venue between Jacksonville and Miami when it opened.
Local artist A.E. Backus created displays for film showings and celebrity visits in the 1930s that shaped the theater's artistic identity. His work remains visible in the venue's character today.
The theater maintains modern sound and lighting equipment throughout the space for all events. Visitors needing accessible seating can arrange wheelchair spaces by contacting the box office before arriving.
Musician Kris Kristofferson performed his final complete concert at this venue in February 2020. This milestone performance remains a memorable moment in the theater's musical history.
