Arcade Building, building in Florida, United States
The Arcade Building is a commercial structure in Spanish Colonial Revival style constructed in 1926 in downtown Fort Pierce. The facade features characteristic arches, stucco walls, and decorative clay roof tiles, while its interior houses shops on the ground floor and office spaces on upper levels.
The building opened in 1926 as Fort Pierce's largest commercial center and became the heart of business activity. A fire in the 1950s and a more severe fire in the 1980s damaged the structure substantially, until a comprehensive restoration in 2002 revived the building for modern use.
The building serves as a gathering place where commerce and community life intersect in downtown Fort Pierce. The murals on its north and west walls depict scenes from past eras, showing old storefronts and local military presence that transport visitors directly into earlier decades.
The building is located in downtown Fort Pierce along U.S. Route 1 and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should expect the site to be most active during daytime hours when shops and offices are open, and nearby parking may be limited.
The building features elaborately painted murals on its north and west sides that depict historical scenes with local storefronts and landmarks from past eras. These artworks were added to keep the place's history alive and visually transport visitors into the past.
