Doctor Doom's Fearfall, Drop tower at Marvel Super Hero Island in Orlando, United States
Doctor Doom's Fearfall is a drop tower at Marvel Super Hero Island inside Islands of Adventure park in Orlando. Two parallel towers shoot riders upward in open seats before sending them back down in free fall.
The attraction opened in 1999 when Islands of Adventure introduced the first theme park area featuring Marvel characters in Florida. The drop tower was among the opening day rides and remains in its original location today.
The towers are designed as Doctor Doom's fortress, a character from Marvel Comics who invites visitors into his laboratory. Video screens in the waiting area tell a story about a failed experiment to convert fear into energy.
Visitors must be at least 52 inches (132 cm) tall to board, and the ride is not suitable for people with heart conditions. Wait times tend to be shorter in the morning as many guests head to other roller coasters first.
The towers rise to 185 feet (56 meters) and offer a brief view across the entire park before the descent begins. Each ride is shorter than many expect, lasting only about 30 seconds from launch to landing.
