The Incredible Hulk, Steel roller coaster in Universal Islands of Adventure, Orlando, Florida.
The Incredible Hulk is a steel roller coaster at Universal Islands of Adventure that takes riders through 1128 meters of track featuring seven inversions, including vertical loops and a cobra roll. The ride reaches speeds up to 108 km/h and seats 32 people per train, arranged in eight rows of four across.
The ride opened in May 1999 alongside the entire Universal Islands of Adventure theme park and was then one of the fastest roller coasters with a catapult launch system. A full renovation took place in 2015, introducing new track sections and updated sound effects that modernized the experience without altering the original layout.
The green tunnel at the launch point and the mist-filled tunnel sections along the track immerse riders in the superhero's transformation story, while speakers in the seat backs deliver a dramatic soundtrack. This design connects the thrill of a high-speed ride to a narrative about raw power, turning the experience into more than pure mechanics and drawing visitors into a fictional world.
Visitors should store loose items in lockers outside the queue before boarding, as the acceleration and inversions make it impossible to carry bags or backpacks safely. The minimum height requirement stands at 137 cm (54 inches), and wearing glasses or other accessories with a secure strap is recommended to prevent loss during the ride.
The launch mechanism uses electric motors that power tires, which grip the underside of the train and accelerate it from zero to 64 km/h (40 mph) in two seconds before the track climbs upward through the first hill. This solution was unusual at the time of opening and differed from the more common hydraulic or pneumatic systems used back then.
