Skull Island: Reign of Kong, Multi-sensory dark ride at Universal's Islands of Adventure, US
Skull Island: Reign of Kong is an amusement ride in Orlando, US, where guests travel in covered safari vehicles through a dark building filled with moving figures and projections. The route combines mechanical dinosaurs and other creatures with large screens showing a giant ape appearing and fighting off attackers.
The ride opened in July 2016, bringing King Kong back to the park after a gap of fourteen years. Previously, an older attraction called Kongfrontation had taken visitors through a recreated city landscape until 2002.
The attraction incorporates elements from Peter Jackson's King Kong films while paying tribute to the 1933 original movie through its queue design and jungle settings.
Children must be at least 36 inches (91 cm) tall to ride, and the system allows entry with express access. A single-rider queue reduces wait time for guests traveling alone.
Five virtual drivers with different personalities guide the three-minute ride and provide changing dialogue. Each guide tells their own version of events, which leads to fresh impressions on repeated visits.
