Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, Motion simulator ride at Universal Studios, Orlando, US
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is a motion simulator ride at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, that uses moving seats and 3D projection. The ride vehicles move in sync with the visuals to simulate a transformation into yellow Minions.
Universal Studios Florida opened the attraction in July 2012 at the site of a former Nickelodeon ride. The conversion brought new projectors and an updated audio system to the existing simulator cabins.
Guests recognize the yellow Minions from the animated film immediately through oversized figures and bright accents in the queue. After the ride, visitors can meet costumed Minions in a dedicated area and take photos with them.
The experience lasts about eight minutes and requires a minimum height of around 40 inches so children can be secured safely. Guests pass through several pre-show rooms with video messages before entering the simulator cabins.
Gru and his three daughters appear on four separate screens in the pre-show rooms and speak directly to waiting guests about the upcoming training. The storytelling continues without interruption even as new groups rotate into the pre-show spaces.
