Twister...Ride it Out, Special effects attraction in Universal Studios Florida, United States
Twister...Ride it Out was an indoor attraction at the Universal Studios Florida theme park based on the 1990s film of the same name. Visitors stood in a recreated small-town set while storm effects simulated a tornado and objects flew through the room.
The attraction opened on May 4, 1998, and replaced an earlier show about ghost hunters. It closed on November 2, 2015, to make room for a new attraction about television studios.
Character names from the 1996 film appear throughout the queue and show areas, letting visitors step into the world of storm chasers. Video segments featuring the lead actors guide each phase of the presentation.
The entire experience lasted about six minutes, and visitors could watch the show multiple times in a row. There was no need to sit, as all guests remained standing throughout the presentation.
Sound engineers combined camel calls, lion roars, and reversed human screams to create the tornado sound effect. This mix aimed to recreate the real noise of a funnel cloud that filmmakers recorded during production.
