Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, Indoor steel roller coaster in Universal Studios Florida, US
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is an indoor roller coaster at Universal Studios Florida that travels on rails through artificial bank vaults. The cars move through several rooms featuring three-dimensional projections and physical special effects such as fire and water.
The ride opened in 2014 and expanded the existing themed area with a second attraction. It replaced an older film-based ride that had stood at the same location since 1990.
Visitors travel through the underground vault of a fictional wizarding bank while experiencing a story about a break-in. During the journey they encounter speaking characters and magical creatures familiar from the novels and films.
The queue winds through several decorated indoor spaces and can take more than an hour during busy periods. Lockers near the entrance hold bags and larger items at no cost.
The ride begins with a simulated elevator that appears to take visitors deep below ground level. During the descent the seats tilt upward several times so riders face the ceiling rather than forward.
