Men in Black: Alien Attack, Interactive dark ride at Universal Studios Florida, United States
Men in Black: Alien Attack is an interactive dark ride at Universal Studios Florida where guests use laser guns to shoot alien targets while their vehicle spins and travels along the track. The route passes through several rooms filled with animated figures, lighting effects, and a scoring system that tracks each rider's hits.
The studios opened this attraction in April 2000 after abandoning initial plans for an Apollo 13 roller coaster in favor of a science fiction concept. The design followed the success of the film franchise in the late 1990s and combined animated elements with ride vehicle technology.
Each vehicle's blaster relies on infrared technology and rewards quick reflexes, while figures along the route echo sounds and gestures from the film. Visitors who pay close attention during the ride recognize sets and equipment taken straight from the movie world.
Guests must be at least 42 inches (107 cm) tall to ride, and free lockers are available near the entrance for storing personal belongings. The ride lasts about five minutes and moves through dark rooms with sudden spins, so people with balance or vision concerns should consider whether they want to participate.
Two computers in each vehicle manage the scoring system and allow results up to 999,999 points when riders hit certain hard-to-reach targets. Pressing a red button at the end of the ride triggers an extra competition between vehicles.
