Teluk Cempedak, Coastal bight in Kuantan, Malaysia
Teluk Cempedak is a coastal bight along the South China Sea with white sand bordered by pine and casuarina trees that create natural shaded areas. The beach is accessed through a raised walking platform and offers food stalls, restrooms, and various seating spots.
The bight was originally a small fishing village on the Pahang coast and developed into a recreation destination from the 20th century onwards. This transformation made it an important hub for the local economy and regional tourism.
The beach serves as a gathering place where local families participate in traditional activities such as kite flying and evening picnics. You can observe these everyday rituals that have been part of coastal life for generations.
The beach is located about 5 kilometers east of Kuantan center and is easy to reach. Visitors should watch the tides carefully, especially if exploring the rocky formations, as these become partially submerged at high tide.
At low tide, visitors can walk across rocky formations to reach a hidden second beach accessible through a forested pathway. This natural feature reveals the diverse coastal landscape within a single location.
