Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, airport in Malaysia
Sultan Abdul Halim Airport is a functional commercial airport in Kepala Batas, about 15 kilometers from Alor Setar, featuring a modern terminal building opened in 2006. The facility has a 2,745-meter runway designed to accommodate large aircraft such as the Airbus A330, along with two sky bridges, ten check-in counters, and two baggage carousels.
The airport was established in 1929, making it the second oldest airport in Peninsular Malaysia after Taiping Airport. The runway was extended in 2006 from approximately 1,963 meters to 2,745 meters to accommodate larger aircraft and modernize operations.
The airport shares its runways and facilities with the Royal Malaysian Air Force training division, creating a mixed civil and military environment. This shared use reflects the airport's role as both a commercial hub and a strategic defense installation for the region.
The airport is located 10 to 15 minutes by taxi from Alor Setar city center and is easily accessible via the North-South Expressway. Travelers will find approximately 300 parking spaces near the terminal, taxis available outside, and car rental is recommended for exploring the surrounding region freely.
The airport terminal features a dedicated prayer room for Muslim passengers located conveniently near the main terminal building. This facility reflects how the airport caters to the spiritual needs of its diverse traveler base.
