Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, Islamic art museum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia is an art museum in Kuala Lumpur with twelve galleries across two levels, presenting works in calligraphy, metalwork, ceramics, textiles, and architecture. The collection holds over seven thousand objects showing the development of Islamic art throughout Southeast Asia.
The museum opened in December 1998 as an initiative to preserve and present the region's art history. Its collection documents artistic developments across several centuries of Islamic traditions.
The museum displays works from different regions, showing how Islamic art traditions from India, China, and the Malay Peninsula influenced each other. Visitors can see these connections reflected in objects like ceramics and textiles on display.
The museum is located near Kuala Lumpur railway station and opens daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The building includes a library, restaurant, and gift shop where visitors can spend time and take breaks.
The building stands out with its turquoise-tiled domes, a striking feature of its design. Inside, a restored nineteenth-century room with Ottoman architecture shows how historical spaces are preserved.
